Christian Wiman is a poet and former editor of Poetry magazine. He's also a professor of religion and literature at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. He's the author of several volumes of poetry, including Every Riven Thing, My Bright Abyss, Hammer Is the Prayer, and most recently edited the collection Joy: Poems.   Teach Us to Want: Longing, Ambition and the Life of Faith by Jen Pollock Michel (IVP Books) Teach us to Want is a compelling mix of personal narrative and biblical reflection that ever-so-gently nudges us into deeper contemplation of our desires, the God who created us to desire and the ends towards which our desires are driving us.

His poems are mostly about life and death, love, temporality, faith, individuality, and Léda. It’s harder to get to his poems but not impossible. Endre Ady is a one of a kind poet, who will steal your heart and will only hand it back to you after he made it better. It’s part of life. Like some, the author found God and was able to bring her life back on track. WRITING STYLE I enjoyed reading this book. It’s broken up into poems of various lengths and forms. I’ll admit there were a few poems I had to re-read in order to understand them.4/5(1).

Other poems such as the poignant depression-era story-in-verse "Riding the Rattlers, " draws you in with tangible images and elusive dreams. With an "Index of Topics" in the back, Ellen Carr's poems of "everyday life and faith" are also perfect for reading aloud in a group setting.5/5(4).

You'll find very little fluffy poetry here. Blaisdell has deftly chosen solid poems about faith by the best authors of the last years. Some were familiar to me (Robert Herrick, Francis Quarles, George Herbert) and others were discoveries (Christopher Harvey, John Day, etc.) Most of them reveal a deep longing for God in their writings/5.

Faith In God Poems. To have faith is to defy logic. It takes faith to think positively. It takes faith to believe that there is a loving God who cares deeply about our pain. To believe in life, the universe, or yourself after numerous failures is to have courage.

Faith is an act of courage. Life & Faith Anyone looking for down to earth lessons on living, inspiring stories, poems to uplift the spirit, and faith-driven resources has come to the Poems of Life and Faith book place. My goal in life is to be a servant of the Lord, and these stories and poems here represent His Words and His instructions for how we should live.

Spiritual poetry can be an enlightening way to understand spiritual teachings more fully and to start thinking ‘outside the box’. Here you’ll find spiritual poems about life, love, inspiration and happiness. Whether you’re a spiritual person or not, this is where you can present, through poetry, your beliefs about if and what exists outside of our own physical world experiences.

Mary Oliver's poetry can often read like prayers -- full of humility, yearning and awe. Although her faith doesn't neatly fit into any one organized religion, the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer still considers herself to be a deeply spiritual person.

Poems like that serve as a reminder that we are not alone, and there is still beauty to be had—even if it’s just in the form of a perfect line of poetry.

Life from the dead is in that word, 'Tis immortality. Here in the body pent, Absent from Him I roam, Yet nightly pitch my moving tent A day's march nearer home. My Father's house on high, Home of my soul, so near, At times, to faith's far-seeing eye Thy golden gates appear. Yet clouds will.

Out of this life I shall never take Things of silver and gold I make. All that I cherish and hoard away After I leave, on earth must stay. Though I have toiled for a painting rare To hang on my wall, I must leave it there.

Though I call it mine and boast its worth, I must give it up when I quit the earth.
